About the NEBP
What is the NEBP?
The NEBP is designed to support IEMRTs in overcoming certification and integration challenges by providing tools, resources, and experiential learning opportunities needed to confidently transition into Canadian MRT practice.
Through peer mentorship, job shadowing opportunities, and focused education, the program provides meaningful support at every stage of the journey.
The Need
Canada’s healthcare system is facing a growing shortage of Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) across multiple specialties. This shortage is creating significant challenges in delivering timely and effective care nationwide.
At the same time, internationally educated MRTs bring valuable skills and experience, but often face barriers when transitioning into Canadian practice, including credential recognition challenges, limited access to relevant experience, and unfamiliarity with the Canadian healthcare system.
How the NEBP Began
Recognizing both the workforce need and the untapped potential of internationally educated professionals, the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) took action.
Through funding from Employment and Social Development Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program, CAMRT launched the NEBP as a national initiative designed to support IEMRTs in overcoming barriers and successfully integrating into the Canadian workforce.
Program impact
The Impact
By supporting IEMRTs on their journey into Canadian practice, the program helps strengthen Canada’s healthcare workforce, reduce system pressures, and improve access to quality care throughout the country.
